Rich Jones (96*) and skipper Phil Colmer (86*) shared a 205 opening stand as they both carried their bats for the 3rd XI in a massive 93-run victory over Great Rissington.
Any chance Rissington had soon disappeared with Riley Bates tearing through the top order, taking the first five wickets (all bowled) and finishing on 5/14 and supported by Will Hobby with 2/4 and Matt Keyte 2/34. The win secured an unbeaten start for the third team, following a narrow win at Fairford last weekend. Elsewhere, the 1st XI suffered a disappointing defeat at home to Gloucester. The only highlight in a stumbling chase was a stylish 41 from Rupert Young that sadly wasn’t enough to chase the 222 set by the visitors. The twos got their season off to a winning start away at Woodpeckers. The hosts batted first and scored 199/9 in their 40 overs, aided by many extras, but were pegged by Joe Winder who took 5/46 and Josh Fielding with 3/37. In reply, it only took 32 overs to reach the total with Andy Phillips continuing from where he left off last season with 53 and a brisk 47 from 36 balls (with a broken toe) from Rich Cook.

With all of our 2024 friendly fixtures and events scuppered by the weather so far, we will be having a season launch for the whole club to coincide with the Junior registration evening on Friday 26th April from 6pm.
This will also be senior registration and a great opportunity for BVCC members to meet our overseas player Rupert Young who will be arriving the day before. The bar will be open and BBQ lit, and we'd love to see lots of the Bourton on the Water community come and enjoy a drink, burger or hot dog! The future is bright with two talented youngsters joining Bourton Vale Cricket Club for the 2024 season.
Firstly, eighteen year-old and seamer Fin Burford has joined the club from Harvington and looks to be an exciting prospect. Secondly, we are absolutely delighted that Lysander Tarrant will be rejoining us after a couple of seasons at Cheltenham CC. A classy batsman and leg spin bowler, Tarrant had broken into the first team at BVCC at the age of 15 before his move. Now almost eighteen, and and with experience at a higher level, this will only benefit him this season. Skipper Darrel Williams said: "It's brilliant that both Fin and Lysander have joined the club this season. Both lads are at an age in which their best cricketing years are ahead of them and we are excited that they have chosen BVCC to continue their development." "Lysander is an exciting all-rounder who has previously played for the club and we are thrilled to have him back with us. Fin is a really promising seamer and handy batter who will be knocking of the door of the first team this season." "I wish both lads the best of luck!" As we continue the new signing announcements, we are incredibly excited to welcome the talented Ollie Whiteley to Bourton Vale Cricket Club. The 20-year-old scored 842 runs last season for Stroud, with 632 in the league at an average of 48.62, including a fluent 67 against us! Having represented Oxfordshire and Wiltshire at youth level, Ollie spent a winter in Brisbane in 2022/23, scoring 800 runs and winning player of the year and was named in the league team of the year. He says" I'm really looking forward to playing for BVCC. It's a great club with lots of ambition, and hopefully we can push on and get back to where we want to be" Bourton Vale Head of Cricket, Rob Langley added "We are absolutely delighted to be able to bring Ollie to The Vale. He is a player who has been on our radar for a while and has a proven record in this league and someone we feel can take us to the next level. He's the perfect type of player, and person, that we are looking to attract to the club. We all wish him all the luck and can't wait to get going!" Good luck from all of BVCC, Ollie!
