Rich Jones (96*) and skipper Phil Colmer (86*) shared a 205 opening stand as they both carried their bats for the 3rd XI in a massive 93-run victory over Great Rissington.
Any chance Rissington had soon disappeared with Riley Bates tearing through the top order, taking the first five wickets (all bowled) and finishing on 5/14 and supported by Will Hobby with 2/4 and Matt Keyte 2/34. The win secured an unbeaten start for the third team, following a narrow win at Fairford last weekend. Elsewhere, the 1st XI suffered a disappointing defeat at home to Gloucester. The only highlight in a stumbling chase was a stylish 41 from Rupert Young that sadly wasn’t enough to chase the 222 set by the visitors. The twos got their season off to a winning start away at Woodpeckers. The hosts batted first and scored 199/9 in their 40 overs, aided by many extras, but were pegged by Joe Winder who took 5/46 and Josh Fielding with 3/37. In reply, it only took 32 overs to reach the total with Andy Phillips continuing from where he left off last season with 53 and a brisk 47 from 36 balls (with a broken toe) from Rich Cook.
